Dr. Sarah Gardner, Chiropractor
B.S. Exercise Science, Medical Science Concentration
Dr. Gardner is a lifelong athlete. She competed in track and field for Ithaca College from 2006-2010 where she studied exercise science with a concentration in medical sciences. While she knew she wanted to work in health care, her experience with injury and rehab as a high school and college athlete left her seeking a different path than traditional western sports medicine. Upon her graduation from IC, Dr. Gardner attended New York Chiropractic College where she graduated magna cum laude with her doctorate in chiropractic medicine and an advanced certificate in sport science and human performance in 2013.
Opening her practice in downtown Ithaca in 2014, Dr. Gardner specializes in the care of athletes, active people, and pregnant women. She provides care for elite level crossfit athletes, professional ironman triathletes, and a variety of college level athletes among others. Because of her background in exercise physiology, she emphasizes both the treatment of the bony joints of the body, but also the muscles and soft tissue, which is often overlooked by chiropractors. She has training in diversified (traditional) chiropractic adjusting, activator technique, active release therapy, trigger point therapy, instrument assisted soft tissue therapies, and a variety of rehabilitative and stretching techniques which allows her to provide patients with a comprehensive treatment plan.
Teri Hornsby, LMT
Teri found her path to massage therapy while dealing with chronic pain and tension headaches. She turned to receiving bodywork and alternative therapies, and through body awareness and myofascial massage techniques she was able to experience profound pain relief. She graduated from the Finger Lakes School of Massage in 2010. Teri knew she wanted to provide medical based massage therapies, specifically working with injury recovery, rehabilitation and chronic pain. She worked in an office with chiropractors and physical therapists for 5 years before moving her practice to a space downtown. She particularly enjoys working with athletes, and was invited to work with NFL players on their recovery days at their pre-season training camp. She also has advanced training in therapies involving the head, neck and jaw.
Teri's intuitive, integrative approach blends varying levels of pressure tailored to each individuals body. She focuses on the fascia and deep muscle layers to help release trigger points while incorporating passive stretching to achieve optimum results and restore balance overall.
